Report Published on the Influence of Trans Activism on Children's Literature

The organization SEEN in Publishing, in collaboration with Transgender Trend and Biology in Medicine, has published a report titled “Through the Looking Glass.” The document analyzes how topics of gender identity and transgender issues are presented in children’s literature and library services.

An article discussing the report’s release features opinions from critics who argue that publishers are facilitating the promotion of gender identity ideology among minors. Specifically, British children’s author Anne Fine described the situation in children’s publishing as a capitulation to a “biologically unfounded ideology.”

As examples, the report examines books that its authors believe romanticize surgical interventions. It mentions Theo Parish’s comic “Homebody,” where characters display mastectomy scars, and the first edition of Harry Woodgate’s children’s book “Grandad’s Pride,” which included images of characters with scars and fetish gear.

The report’s authors and their supporters believe that restricting children’s access to such books is not censorship, but rather a necessary process of age-appropriate curation for literature.
