Germany, New Zealand and Chile did not sign the embassies' LGBT statement in Russia for Pride Month

Ten foreign embassies in Moscow published a joint statement in support of LGBT+ rights for Pride Month. According to Parni+ , the document was signed by Australia, Ireland, France, Denmark, Canada, Finland, Norway, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden.

Compared to last year, the number of signatories decreased from 12 to 10: the embassies of Germany, New Zealand and Chile did not join the statement. France appeared in the list for the first time. The United States has not participated in joint embassy statements on this topic since the Donald Trump administration came to power.

The document affirms the universality of human rights and mentions the “courage of LGBTQI+ activists” around the world. The statement also notes instances of “targeted persecution and discrimination” against LGBT+ community members, without naming specific countries.

The statement was published on June 29, 2026 — the same day a court in Orenburg sentenced participants in the case of gay club Pose, and a court in Chita increased the sentence in the case of club Jackson. Both venues had been recognized in Russia as “extremist cells.” These cases are not mentioned in the text of the statement.
